Flashback to 2015 with me. It’s the beginning of the Republican primary debates and Donald J. Trump is pulling no punches. I was a news director at the time, and I wanted to watch not only to decide who I should vote for, but also to make sure I was reporting the facts of the debate accurately. (Yeah, I know, I know. Reporters aren’t supposed to be honest or have integrity anymore, but bear with me. I would like to think I was an anamoly. And besides… we’re pretending it’s 2015). As I watched him scorch the floor of the debate stage, something shocking occurred to me. For the very first time, I felt like I could really trust someone who was running for office.
As a woman, the idea of being able to trust someone is incredibly important to me and I like to think the same can be said for everyone. Before watching this debate I thought all politicians were the same: slimy, rehearsed, and perfectly polished to give you just enough to win your vote, but they didn’t really have much intention to actually change the status quo. If you had asked me ten years ago if I would ever trust a political candidate, I would have laughed in your face and given you a resounding NO as an answer. But as we inch closer to the 2024 Presidential election, I feel the same way about voting for Donald Trump that I did all those years ago. It’s the right thing for myself and my country.
Back to the debate. Cutting the nonsense and being blunt, Donald Trump was far from the scripted, teleprompt-dependent, “politically correct” contenders for the 2016 nomination that stood on the stage next to him. I remember watching him on television and thinking to myself, “This man is saying exactly what I think… what most Americans are really thinking.” He didn’t always say the thing that he thought people wanted to hear, or the thing that he knew would get him the most popularity. Instead, for better or worse, he said the thing that was true. This was the moment that I knew that I had to vote for him.
This may have been the first time I realized I could trust Trump, but it certainly wouldn’t be the last. You can name any campaign promise that he made and regardless of what the media tries to tell you, he did everything within his power to fulfill it. Whether we’re talking about the border wall, lower taxes, more benefits for our military, or draining the “Swamp,” the only agenda items that President Trump couldn’t finish in his first term were those that the “Deep State” viciously opposed him on and simly refused to allow him to get done.
Think about all the things the media has said about Trump that all turned out to be lies. The Durham Report was just released proving Trump was being honest as he was maliciously slandered by Hillary Clinton’s campaign for Russian collusion. No matter what the media and the “Deep State” try to throw at him, Trump always comes out clean. Why? Because he IS clean. He has been honest with the American people since day one and no matter what the propaganda machine says, nothing will ever change my mind about that.
Now, let’s come back to the present day. It’s 2023. Contrary to the rosy picture that MSNBC, CNN, (and at times even Fox News), and others try to paint for us, things in America are far from what they were under the leadership of Donald Trump. A dementia patient is living in the White House, the border is overrun with illegal immigrants, inflation is the highest it’s been in nearly half a century, and the national debt has skyrocketed. This is just the tip of the iceberg. And yet, Joe Biden and the Democrats want to tell us that even as they continue to put an “America Last” policy in place, we should trust them. Trust them? What have they ever done to show us that they deserve our trust? Lie to us? Hunt us down for our political beliefs? Weaponize the IRS against us? No thank you. I think I’ll put my trust elsewhere… In the Almighty Creator. And lehavdil — to differentiate obviously — in Donald Trump.
